5th LBHC Symposium (2015)

The 2015 Latino Behavioral Health Symposium focused on having participants increase their awareness of cultural nuances, beliefs, and experiences of the Latino populations and how they impact behavioral and emotional health at the individual, family and community levels.

Some of the objectives of this symposium included:

  • Understanding the importance of creating and sustaining a therapeutic alliance
  • Examining the importance of Christianity in Latino beliefs
  • Identifying 2-3 benefits of implementing an Electronic Health Record system
  • Defining trauma exposure-response and related concepts of vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, burn out and discuss how these responses can impact professional competency
  • Improving their self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-image
